Swine flu vaccinationThe UK’s swine flu vaccination programme starts today. Patients in at-risk groups – the same groups who are usually recommended to have the seasonal flu vaccine, including people with HIV – who are currently in hospital will receive the swine flu vaccine first. It will then be available from GPs in the week commencing 26th October. It’s expected that it will take about a month to vaccinate everyone in the priority groups. You need to be registered with a GP to obtain both the swine flu vaccination and vaccination against seasonal flu. The vaccine has been developed to be given in two injections, into muscle, at least three weeks apart, but it is thought that one dose will provide protection against the virus for most people. If you don’t already have a GP, your HIV clinic will be able to help you find one.
